Recommendations – Week of 15 May 2011

This is not everything I read, just those things that stick out and I consider work retaining a record of. Things I think others should read, too.

Sherlock (BBC)

  • Shadows on the Wall by AraSigyrn
    (Sherlock/John)
    PG: Slash, Awesome paranormalness
I adore anything paranormal in this fandom, and this story is exceptional. It contains great buildup to get to the point where John’s secret needs revelation and employs a wonderful AU rewrite of much the main storyline. A stellar work.
  • Show Me How to Stop Running by etothepii (Stochastical)
    (Sherlock/John)
    R: Slash, Paranormalness
I have this thing for supernatural sherlock stories, I really do. Werewolves in this one, it’s very much fun. Also, DI Lestrade in a positive light. gotta love that.
  • I Used to Live Alone Before I Knew You by etothepii (Stochastical)
    (Sherlock/John)
    R: Slash, Paranormalness
Sherlock as a demon. Amazing story with a great deal of feeling to it. Worth a read.
  • They tell me their secrets (will you tell me yours too) by etothepii (Stochastical)
    (Sherlock/John)
    PG: Slash, Paranormalness
I completely want a sequel to this. Technomancer John is just fun.
  • Lupercalia ‘verse by Mad_Maudlin
    (Sherlock/John)
    R: Slash, Paranormalness
    Such a fascinating universe. I <3 werewolves.
  • An Addition to the Family by i_know_its_0ver
    (Sherlock/John)
    G: Slash
    Because everyone needs a dog.
  • That thing you like by misspamela
    (Sherlock/John)
    NC-17: Slash
I’ve long been a sucker for a holiday story, but this one is extra fun and very well written.

Crossovers

  • Two Doctors, A Nurse, A Detective and A Scot by WritingispudyDoctor Who, Sherlock (BBC) (Sherlock/John, Amy/Rory)
    G: Slash, Het, Humor
Epic hilarious and clever-offs between the galaxies two cleverest beings. Also, deerstalkers are cool.

Recommendations – Week of 8 May 2011

In an effort to get back into thinking more about what’s what and what I read/ect… I’m sharing things again. This is not everything I read, just those things that stick out and I consider work retaining a record of. Things I think others should read, too.

Sherlock (BBC, 2011)

  • Black Ice by Elvendork
    (Sherlock/John)
    G: Slash, Hurt/Comfort
A pretty little hurt comfort piece with everyone in character.
  • An Idle Quest by coloredink
    (Sherlock/John)
    G: Slash
An adorable little tale in which Sherlock takes the initiative to be romantic.
  • Bells Are Ringing by Basingstoke
    (Sherlock/John)
    G: Slash, Schmoop
So cute. So much fun. Mycoft makes Sherlock French. Absolutely made me giggle.
  • Lab Book by Sam Storyteller
    (Sherlock/John)
    NC-17: Slash
I adore this one. Characterization is dead on and that can be hard when they’re acting so cute.

Four Seasons Drabble – MiniJOLNIR

Series: Four Seasons

Title: Post-ES & Pre-AC Drabble – MiniJOLNIR
Rating: PG
Pairing: Grif x Simmons
Warnings: Mild Language

Summary: … Grif & Simmons. A Cat. and Donut.
(I can’t say much more without giving too much away.)

Special thanks go to [info]miss_poppet, who has offered up her services and does a wonderful job as the Beta of the series!

Author’s NotesThis came about during the writing of the Cats Drabble that precedes it. I’d originaly brainstormed the cat as a silly little enemy for Grif, that no one would ever support him in disliking. I showed the Drabble to a certain fundamentalist Christian Sounding board who, for some reason, tolerates my throwing slash-related stories at him on the condition that I censor things a bit. The Cats Drabble was perfect for it, a fun way for me to share the universe in a situation where I didn’t have to be the least bit careful about what parts of the story I sent his way. MiniJOLNIR sprang from his mind unbidden, and the rest is history. Crueler became an immediate and permanent member of the cast (rather than an experimental potential bit part) for nothing less than my own amusement.

Author’s NotesI work in a retail store. I get bored. Sometimes, an image gets stuck in my head. This is one of those images.

Four Seasons Drabble – Cold

Series: Four Seasons
Title: Post-ES & Pre-AC Drabble – Cold
Rating: PG
Pairing: Grif x Simmons
Warnings: Mild Language

Summary: Grif reviews debriefing documents immediately after he and Simmons return to Blood Gulch.

Author’s Notes: I wrote for the soul purpose of getting to use the final line. *snicker* And since I felt like releasing something else while I’m fiddling around doing nothing tonight. After spending forever between the Social Security Administration Office and the Department of Transportation… I need to do something fun 🙂

Four Seasons Drabble – Language

Series: Four Seasons
Title: Post-ES & Pre-AC Drabble – Language
Rating: G
Pairing: Grif x Simmons
Warnings: Fluff?

Summary: Simmons looks to resolve something that’s annoyed him in the past.

Author’s Notes[info]vadadaca recently made a Post that mentioned Four Seasons in such a warm and fuzzy way that I couldn’t help but cave and post one of the various drabbles I’ve been writing early! They’re set between Eternal Summer, but before Autumn Colors begins…

AM willing to take prompts that are as detailed or as vauge as you’d like, though I don’t swear to take everything, just what inspires me.

Eternal Summer – Ch. 11

Series: Four Seasons
Title: Eternal Summer
Chapter: 11 – Something Resembling An Ending
Rating: PG
Pairing: Grif x Simmons
Warnings: Swearing

Summary: Simmons isn’t the only one who’s not completely human.

Author’s Notes: Good lord, has the ride been fun… Maybe a bit bumpy until Miss Poppet signed on to consult… But enjoyable beyond what I expected. And considering I wasn’t expecting much feedback and people wise for an AU as weird as mine… *snicker* I’d just like everyone who’s been reading to know I’ve appreciated every moment… Which is part of why I worked in my free time to get a chapter out before the wedding (well… I needed a distraction that would let me unwind, too).

AM currently collecting prompts that might be used to create drabbles. If you’d like to give one, feel free to be as vague or detailed as you want. I may or may not use them. They can be set Before, during or after Eternal Summer… But in accordance with the fact that the sequel, Autumn Colors, will be showing up in the next few months I’ll be avoiding things that would having me writing beyond where that is set to start.

Anyways, ENJOY!

Eternal Summer – Ch. 10

Title: Eternal Summer
Chapter: 10 – The Value of Blood Gulch
Rating: PG
Pairing: None Yet (Eventual Grif x Simmons)
Warnings: Swearing

Summary: Simmons isn’t the only one who’s not completely human.

Author’s Notes: I’d like to start with a special thanks to all of those who gave condolences following Chip’s passing. It’s been hard for me, but every day gets better. and I may have cheated the healing process along, by purchasing Chip’s half-brother, Teddy. Who’s currently 10 Weeks old and growing fast. Teddy is… Well.. Not Chip but very much himself and a constant reminder to me that even in the hardest times life goes on. Additionaly, as of July 5th, my Fiance will become my Husband. I’ve been having a heck of a time finding time to write, and keep forgetting to make the time to post chapter 10…

As for the next chapter… Theoreticaly (or at least, according to the current outline) it will be the final chapter of this Eternal Summer. Though don’t discount the possibility of a sequal. This AU seems to have a mind of it’s own. Something resembling an ending should show up in July.

Special thanks go to [info]miss_poppet, who has offered up her servises and does a wonderful job as the Beta of the series!

Eternal Summer – Ch. 9

Title: Eternal Summer
Chapter: 9 – Bad, Grif. BAD!
Rating: PG
Pairing: None Yet (Eventual Grif x Simmons)
Warnings: Swearing

Summary: Simmons isn’t the only one who’s not completely human.

Author’s Notes: My muse disliked this chapter, and rendered it a horrible challenge to complete. Hopefully there won’t be another month’s lag while I work on Chapter 10…

In chapter 8 I mentioned in the comments that my puppy was sick… and those of you who follow my personal journal would already know of his Fate… My darling boy and furry shadow was euthanized on April 11th as a result of uncontrollable seizures. I miss him horribly, but the potential causes were all dire and fatal. Sometimes life leaves you with little but a choice between which evil you would rather have… For me it was living without one of my best friends so he wouldn’t have to suffer any longer.

Eternal Summer – Ch. 8

Title: Eternal Summer
Chapter: 8 – Questions Without Answers
Rating: PG-13
Pairing: None Yet (Eventual Grif x Simmons)
Warnings: Swearing, Violence

Summary: Simmons isn’t the only one who’s not completely human.

Author’s Notes: Bet y’all thought I died, eh? Nop. Nothing like that… Just a little injury that involved pulling every muscle in my back. Since everything was so buiried by the time I got around to reading comments 😉 I’ll be doing a few responses from the perivious chapter here. I noramaly get alot of enjoyment out of the back and forth with the readers that I just didn’t get on chapter 7.

catc10: “I like crazywolflike!Grif.”
Honestly… I have this thing for growling… It rivals my thing for Cyborgs. I get both in this story. It’s nice.

tttroy: “i still can’t imagine cat monster with tentacles”
I acctually hijacked the looks of the Displacer Beast of D&D Fame. So I have a visual for you!

queenoflitrp: “T_T Mean lady. And here I thought SHE would be the voice of reason! But race barriers don’t break down that quickly.”
When I original sat down to write her… she was intended as the voice of reason… But those same race barriers kept interfeariing with the scene working with Nice!OldLady… As soon as I changed the angle of approch I was using with her, that moment suddenly fell into place. Those race barriers are acctually kinda hard to write… I don’t have alot of personal experinece with them…

A special thanks goes out to everyone else who took the time to comment. As much as I enjoy writing, the warm and fuzzy feeling of your support is always nice.
